9th Grade Confirmation

In 9th grade, we’ll connect to the core teachings of our faith and how they express themselves in church & worship, in community, and in our homes. In all of this, we’ll be saying “yes, I want to experience more” about living out the commitments we make to one another in community through baptism. We meet on Sunday nights to prepare our 9th graders for the creation of their confirmation faith project & conversation w/ staff and Confirmation Sunday. Attendance is required. If you cannot attend, other arrangements must be made.

A “Typical” Wednesday Night

  • 6:45 PM – gather in a large group with high school peers from HSM Youth Group, eat pizza, and hang time
  • 7:00 PM – split into 9th grade confirmation for instruction, and small group breakout and check-in about Faith Project progress
  • 8:00 PM – see ya!

Biggest Differences from 8th Grade

  1. Learning nights move from Wednesday to Sunday
  2. 7-week intensive designed to prepare youth to complete their Faith Project for Confirmation (October 25)
  3. Unlike 8th grade, there is no parent/adult attendance expectation
  4. Preparing youth for continued faith/relationship development in HSM Youth Group on Sunday night – confirmation is not a graduation, it’s an invitation to take the next step of faith together

Expectations

  1. Students attend all Sunday night programming because we’re building faith-centered community & Christ-centered identity
  2. Worship Attendance – we expect that families attend worship together 2x per month
  3. Complete the Faith project & 30-min conversation with preferred staff
  4. Celebration of Passage, Tuesday, October 20, 2025
  5. Confirmation Sunday, October 25, 2026
  6. Once confirmed, we’ll see Confirmands in Youth Group on Sunday nights

To pull this off, we’ll need teams ready to roll up their sleeves and do this together (identify how you’d like to serve in the registration form). Please consider one of the following options:

  • Small group guide (co-guide?)
  • Age-appropriate curriculum & discussion questions development,
  • Monthly events that will occur throughout the year
  • Wednesday night pizza people to serve pizza

Thanks for journeying with us as we learn to live and love like Jesus for a lifetime.
