Endowment Fund: Leaving a Legacy

The Endowment Fund provides additional resources, apart from regular giving, to support and enhance the mission and vision of Incarnation Lutheran Church. The Endowment Fund’s special characteristic is its ongoing stream of income for years to come. Contributions remain in the fund; only earnings are used each year. With the Endowment Fund, even one-time contributions turn into gifts for which our ministries benefit year after year.

Investment in Mission and Ministry of Incarnation

Over the years, the Endowment Fund has invested resources in the mission and ministry of Incarnation so that people could grow in faith, connect more deeply with God, and serve out of the gifts and passions God has given them. Endowment Fund earnings are primarily used to help cover one-time expenses that expand Incarnation’s ministry in new ways, including the following examples:

  • Resources and training to pilot new online and hybrid learning and connecting experiences for the Incarnation community and beyond during the 2020-2021 program year—including a new small group faith study.
  • Fees for several people from Incarnation to attend an Addiction and Faith Conference, to further a goal from the long-range plan to “Support People in Life’s Challenging Times.”
  • Tools and resources to maximize Incarnation’s use of a donated Heritage Edition of the Saint John’s Bible. In addition to lighting, carts and stands, this included resources for study, prayer, and training of docents and small group leaders.
  • SPARK Story Bibles for every pew in the Sanctuary and in Incarnation Hall for young children to use during worship.
  • Incarnation T-shirts that volunteers wear when representing the church while doing community service projects.
  • Monitors and technology for several classrooms for use during Faith Stepping Stones and some adult learning opportunities.
  • Books used to launch a high school retreat program focused on identifying and using God-given gifts.

The Endowment Fund is not used for operating expense or mortgage support.

NEW: Extending Outreach through Budding Idea Grants

A program called “Budding Idea Grants” has been created to help fund community outreach initiatives—endeavors that take place beyond the church’s facility, and that are consistent with the mission and values of Incarnation Lutheran Church. A portion of Endowment Fund earnings are being devoted to this program each year. A lack of funds is often what prevents a good idea from becoming reality. You may have such an idea. How Can I Contribute to the Endowment Fund?

As a Christian, you are the caretaker of unique gifts—your time, your talent and the financial gifts given to you by God. One way to steward these gifts wisely is through contributions to the Endowment Fund, which will strengthen Incarnation for mission and ministry today and in the years to come. There are several options for contributing to the Endowment Fund.

Give Now

If you want to provide immediate support for Incarnation’s ministry and mission through the Endowment Fund, which includes the Budding Idea Grants program, you can make a cash gift at any time. Cash gifts in any amount can become a significant force over time. You can make a one-time gift, one that renews each year, or a gift connected with memorials, special events, or year-end tax planning.

You may make a gift online or by sending a check to the Incarnation office with “Endowment” indicated on the memo line. If you have questions about how to make a contribution, please contact Amy Faymoville in the Incarnation office.

Give Later

Planned giving is another way to invest in Incarnation’s Endowment Fund. With planned giving, your legacy gift is received upon your death. The following are effective vehicles for planned giving.

Wills and Bequests

Wills and bequests are an easy and meaningful way to witness your appreciation for your spiritual life and growth through Incarnation. Include the Incarnation Endowment Fund as a beneficiary under your will, estate, 401(k), or IRA.

Life Insurance and Annuities

Life insurance and annuities can help provide your legacy to Incarnation’s ministry and mission. Update existing policies to include the Incarnation Endowment Fund as a beneficiary or assign dividends to the fund. Another option is to create a brand new legacy with a new policy.

Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds

Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds all make ideal gifts to the Incarnation Endowment Fund. Many options are available to leave your legacy, including:

  • Transfer stock outright
  • Name the Incarnation Endowment Fund as a beneficiary
  • Assign as a revocable or irrevocable living trust

Your legacy is welcomed regardless of its amount. Contributions of all sizes continue working for Incarnation’s mission forever. For any gift where the Incarnation Endowment Fund would be a benefactor, an easy method to determine the amount is to assign a percentage as your gift, instead of a specific dollar amount. Please use our letter of intent to inform the Endowment Fund of your future legacy gift.

Give and Receive

Support Incarnation and receive an additional source of income for retirement. You may convert assets such as cash, real estate, appreciated stock and even closely held stock into ongoing income payment and benefit charities, including Incarnation, upon death. These types of gifts can be more complicated and there are several options to consider. Please contact Amy Faymoville for direct contact with a member of the Endowment Fund Committee. They will be able to help you consider the various options to “give and receive” through the Incarnation Endowment Fund.
