View dates for the Fall Celebration of Confirmation Events.Confirmation is the process of affirming the promises made for you at your baptism. In preparation for being confirmed this fall, all students are expected to complete a faith project (either a paper or creative project) and then talk about it with one of the pastors or other youth ministry staff.
The purpose of this project is to get students to really think about what they believe, what it matters for their life and relationship with God, and what they are going to do with it after Confirmation. This project is not about having everything figured out, but about creating a snapshot of what is important to each person at this point in their faith journey. Faith projects should be turned in one week before the student's faith interview.
Remember, the faith project is really a snapshot of where each student is on their unique faith journey at this point in their life. It is not a test or about having all the answers, but a chance for students to express their own beliefs, doubts, questions, and promises as they get confirmed. For the faith project, we want students to take all the work they’ve done and create something that tells or shows:
- This is what I believe about God and faith
- This is why it matters in my life and for my relationship with God and other people
- This is what I’m going to do with it in my life and after Confirmation
We hope each student's faith project will be an expression of who they are—what they love to do, what they are good at, or something they’ve always wanted to try. In the past people have done things like written papers, done collages, put together scrapbooks, PowerPoint presentations, or memory boxes, written songs and raps, and done drawings. We are open to whatever creative project students may want to do.
Students do not have to include every element of the prep work in their project, but that work is fair game for conversation during their faith interview.
View Faith Project MaterialsThe faith interview with a pastor or youth ministry staff person is really more of a conversation. It is an opportunity for us to check in with each student about their faith journey, to hear about their faith project, to address questions or concerns they may have, and hear about their life in general and what’s ahead for them in high school. Each interview is allotted 30 minutes, but it doesn’t always take that long. Students may sign up for faith interviews beginning Wednesday, April 25th.
