Endowment Fund: Leaving a Legacy

The Endowment Fund provides additional resources, apart from regular giving, to support and enhance the mission and vision of Incarnation Lutheran Church. The Endowment’s special characteristic is its ongoing stream of income for years to come. Contributions remain in the fund; only earnings are used each year. With the Endowment Fund, even one-time contributions turn into gifts for which our ministries benefit year after year.

Investment in Mission and Ministry of Incarnation

Over the years the Endowment Fund has invested resources in the mission and ministry of Incarnation so that people could grow in faith, connect more deeply with God, and serve out of the gifts and passions God has given them. The following are just some of the ways Endowment Fund money has made an impact:

  • Providing Bibles for 3rd grade youth helps Incarnation live out the promise made at each baptism to nurture children in the Christian faith and life.
  • Equipping classrooms 15-17 with monitors and other technology for use during Faith Stepping Stones classes and some adult learning opportunities.
  • Placed SPARK Storybook Bibles in every pew in the Sanctuary and in Incarnation Hall for young children to use during worship.
  • Providing youth scholarships for families in need so that youth may participate at Camp Wapo, in Summer Stretch, and in Incarnation’s summer camp opportunities.
  • Supported the development of young leaders by providing scholarships to Teens in Mission (TIM) training programs at Camp Wapo for high school students.
  • Assisting with expenses for the Feed My Starving Children MobilePackTM events at Incarnation so that working together to reach out to God’s hungry children throughout the world.
  • Paid for the installation of handicap accessible doors to be more welcoming to all.
  • Providing scholarships for mission trips for adults and youth.

The Endowment Fund is not used for operating expense or mortgage support.

In March, our offering slideshow in worship gave thanks for the ways that Incarnation’s Endowment Fund has made ministry possible over the last few years:

How Can I Contribute?

As a Christian you are the caretaker of unique gifts – your time, your talent, your loved ones, and the financial resources given to you by God. One way to steward these gifts wisely is through contributions to the Endowment Fund, which will strengthen Incarnation for mission and ministry today and in the years to come. There are several options for contributing to the Endowment Fund.

Give Now

FMSC 2012 entranceIf you want to provide immediate support for Incarnation’s ministry and mission through the Endowment, you can make a cash gift at any time. Cash gifts in any amount can become a significant force over time. You can make a one time gift, one that renews each year, or connected with memorials, special events, or year-end tax planning.

You may make a gift online or by sending a check to the Incarnation Office with “Endowment” indicated on the memo line. If you have questions about how to make a contribution, please contact Kelsey Mackereth in the Incarnation Office.

Give Later

Planned giving is another way to invest in Incarnation’s Endowment Fund. With planned giving, your legacy gift is received upon your death. The following are effective vehicles for planned giving:

Wills and Bequests
Wills and Bequests are an easy and meaningful way to witness your appreciation for your spiritual life and growth through Incarnation. Include the Incarnation Endowment Fund as a beneficiary under your will, estate, 401(k), or IRA.

Life Insurance and Annuities
Life insurance and annuities can help provide your legacy to Incarnation’s ministry and mission. Update existing policies to include the Incarnation Endowment Fund as a beneficiary or assign dividends to the fund. Another option is to create a brand new legacy with a new policy.

Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds
Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds all make ideal gifts to the Incarnation Endowment Fund. Many options are available to leave your legacy, including:

  • Transfer stock outright
  • Name the Incarnation Endowment Fund as beneficiary
  • Assign as a revocable or irrevocable living trust

Your legacy is welcomed regardless of its amount. Contributions of all sizes continue working for Incarnation’s mission forever. For any gift where the Incarnation Endowment Fund would be a benefactor, an easy method to determine the amount is to assign a percent instead of a specific dollar amount as your gift. Please use our Letter of Intent to inform the Endowment Fund of your future legacy gift.

Give and Receive

Support Incarnation and receive an additional source of income for retirement. You may convert assets such as cash, real estate, appreciated stock and even closely held stock into ongoing income payments and benefit charities, including Incarnation, upon death. These types of gifts can be more complicated and there are several options to consider. Please contact Pastor Gary Medin or Kelsey Mackereth for direct contact with a member of the Endowment Fund Committee. They will be able to help you consider the various options to “give and receive” through the Incarnation Endowment fund.
